Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/27/24 Full Review Trafalgar L "Ghost" is an emotionally charged thriller drama. It tells the story of banker Sam Wheat (Patrick Swayze) and his girlfriend Molly Jensen (Demi Moore), on the night that Sam is planning to propose to Molly he is murdered when an armed robbery goes afoul. Despite the beckoning to crossover Sam chooses to stay as he's worried that Molly may be in danger. Upon learning that his death was a fiendish plan by his coworker and colleague Carl Bruner (Tony Goldwyn) in attempt to launder money, Sam enlists the help of a self-proclaimed clairvoyant psychic named Oda Mae Brown (Whoopi Goldberg) in hopes that he can warn Molly of the imminent danger. Jerry Zucker directed this beautiful piece of cinematography, and despite its cast the selling point is the music and underscore. "Unchained Melody" by The Righteous Brothers is used beautifully and through a rescore by an orchestra it is used for the final scene. The orchestra angles of this song will ensure there's not a dry eye in the house. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/23/24 Full Review Jeff B Ghost ReviewIn Ghost a man who is murdered ghost stays behind on earth to warn his girlfriend of danger with the help of a fortune teller. Ghost is very elemental with not only characters who are a force of nature, but with being a force of nature as a whole. It makes you feel love with how romantic it is; it makes you laugh with its humorous moments, and it makes you cry with being a story about grief.Ghost has many absorbing characters in it: Molly Jensen, Oda Mae Brown, Carl Bruner, Willie Lopez, and particularly Sam Wheat. Sam and Molly are very much alike with both being authentically happy yet also authentically worrisome. Sam is worried he'll lose all of what he has such as the apartment he's moved into, and with Molly. Sam is earnest being a stockbroker, and Molly is artistic, being a sculptor. So, in Ghost we have a romantic story of opposites attract. Sam ends up becoming the most fascinating character in the movie once he becomes a ghost with only other ghosts being able to see him, and it also seems like only animals can see him as well because we're led to believe that his and Molly's cat can see him as well. Oda Mae Brown, the psychic who Sam goes to for help, cracks a lot of jokes and is the comic relief of the film such as with how reluctant she is to give $4 million dollars to nuns.Carl and Willie are the villains of the movie. Carl is a kind of man who only cares about himself and what satisfies him. He launders or plans to launder money from the bank. Willie, the man who killed Sam, always looks like he's up to no good. He has a mean look on his face, and he has an evil smile on his face throughout the movie. We're always worried he's going to do something evil. There is even a moment where we think he might rape Molly because there's a scene where he's watching her get undressed. Ghost is also romantic because there's a romantic scene in it where Sam and Molly are making love in their apartment as the romantic song Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers plays. Ghost is a very sentimental movie with dealing with the topic of grief or coping with the loss of a loved one. Ghost to the utmost degree makes us cry such as with the scene of Sam's funeral and especially at the end when Molly watches Sam leave earth to go to heaven when his work is done. Ghost is an authentically powerful film with making us feel many emotions when we watch it and with having strong characters.
